8 African Dress Styles You Should Wear To Your Next Event!

So this week I thought I'd present something  fashion forward, especially since 'event season' is fast approaching.

As you all probably know, I am slightly obsessed  - Very obsessed, to say the least, with my African Fashion, so let's get started!

1. Lace

We are kicking this Look Book off with my favourite material, which has to be lace. In my opinion, you can never go wrong with lace. It's so classy and elegant that anyone could pull it off.

Zinny_o (Instagram) is rocking this beautifully embroided lace dress in one of my favourite colours. It looks so stunning and is one of my favourite designs in this look book. Love love love!

Alternatively you could opt for a navy patterned lace like the one Style Blogger @thatdynamitechick is rocking here. The satin at that bottom of this dress just adds that extra edge.

Hairstylist/Mua @Lakesanu looks fab in her lace peplum dress. The detail around the arms and flare is so stunning.

2. Ankara

Who doesn't love a bold Ankara print?

The life this dress is giving me chileee! Matching aschobi tings right there!

Former Miss Sierra Leone, Yazmin Karim is rocking this bold print sewn in a simple way to create the perfect contrast. Dress by the talented @maryzodesigns

So this is for you all that would like to go the extra mile and give your Ankara that little bit of *oomph* lol @khinah_ certainly shows you how to do it. Werkk girl!

3. Dashiki

Yes, Dashiki's have remained in style since I did my last post on them. If you have not seen it yet you may check it out here.

Well I am sure you all remember when the brilliant @mindofkye_ broke the Internet with her very own Dashiki Prom Dress last year. Well this year the trend is back!

Check out this design. Still as stunning as ever.

You can certainly dress a dashiki up right? Isn't this cute.

4. Kente

@danc3likeh0w (Instagram) is absolutely killing this design. The black velvet on the bottom half of this dress is an amazing twist.

Why not opt for a bright and chic kente like the one here. It's perfect for the summer!

Now I'm sure many of you would remember when I posted this picture on my Instagram last year. I was looking for the designer everywhere. Well guess what! I finally found her!! Ohemma Closet created this masterpiece, modelled by the talented @jessnnecee. - still love it!

So I wasn't quite sure which category to put this dress in. Technically it should go in the lace section, but since @serwaa55 is wearing a kente headscarf I thought I'd place it here lol. From my white lace post, you all know how I feel. White + lace = bomb!

5. Mixing Prints
Mixing and matching is fun right? Why not take a leap of faith and try it!

@poshesteb certainly got it right with these two contrasting colours. How did she pull it off??

Seems like @theonlyskinnybish is at it too!

6. Iro & Buba

Following on from the mixing prints trend comes @_kommee looking chic in her Iro and Buba.

These Ankara prints are bold and summery.

Then we have the queen herself, Isoken giving life in this Iro and Buba from the @puksieswardrobe

My favourites have to be the Komole's from @deola_by_deolasagoe. Omg isn't this so stunning!!! It looks perfect on dark skin tones.

7. Call the shots

You're probably thinking, "but Rasheeda, there will never be a time when I need to show out like this."
Na ah. Truss me girl, there will. And when the time comes call @zoearku to slay a gown for you. Her designs are simply breathtaking!

8. Agbada/ Guinean baracade

Okay so I admit, I'm cheating here a little because these aren't actually dresses. *sigh*. But they are a great twist on African Fashion that will surely have you standing out.

Remember when Toke Makinwa showed up in this?!?! Well, this look styled by @harveystyles has been a trend ever since.
I am definitely a dress type of girl, but I have to say this made me want to throw on an agbada and go! What about you?

So unfortunately this weeks look book chronicles have come to an end. What was your favourite look? Would you be rocking any of these to your next event? Let me know in the comments section below!

•Guest Blogger• Best Spring 2016 Trends You Wouldn't Want To Miss ~Suzy Walsh

Fashion trends in spring have been always about colours, patterns and bold styling, and every season, it is rather a gala affair to wait for the spring trends. Spring 2016 has already arrived in many parts of the globe, and there’s no better time to find the best ideas, straight from the runways! Here’s a list of most fun designer trends you would like to follow this season.

Powerful girl: Dresses and outfits with bold shoulder cuts were a major hit on the runways. From Giambattista Valli and Givenchy to Prabal Gurung and Preen, the idea was used by different designers in a number of ways. If you were influenced by the off-shoulder looks, rest assured that this is a new trend that would repeat itself very soon again. The look works wonders for both short and long dresses, and if you are choosing a hot dress for the mornings, you can just add a pair of sneakers for a cool look. For summer sneakers, click here.

The smart white shirt: The white shirt is like a must-have you wouldn’t want to miss, but in spring this year, you will be wearing more designer varieties of the classic. Designers have revamped the original for some amazing new elements, including cut-outs, embroidery, use of pouf hands and much more. Some of the best fashion houses to check include Anthony Vaccarello, Fendi, Issa and Proenza Schouler, and if you want to find ways to wear the classic design with subtle twists, you should check the collections of Jil Sander and Sportmax.

Pleats for style: Pleats always add feminine elements to any outfit, but this season, designers are more focused on creating sculptural designs, using pleats. The emerging ideas are all about adding a little or often more elements of pleats to create inspiring designs. Gucci and Hermès worked with pleats for creating elemental skirts and dresses while Chanel, Carolina Herrera, Emilio Pucci focused on created more runway-like looks, which would eventually become daily staples. If you haven’t tried many things for the spring outside the regular brands, this is a trend worth investing in.

Lingerie now and ever: Spring 2016 had a lot of lingerie-inspired dresses, which were more the slip-in dresses we wear at home. For those who have been following the emerging trends will know that the trend also continues for the fall 2016. The trend is simple – Let go of your inhibitions and wear dresses that are truly feminine and not limited by elements. Top fashion houses including Alexander Wang, Balenciaga and Calvin Klein have worked with the idea, adding more varieties in materials and colours to bring assortment in designs.
Don’t miss on the glamour quotient this spring! Until next time, stay stylish and keep finding style statements that work for you!

•Guest Blogger• Colour Pop For The Season! ~ Nana Ashanti

Hey guys, Nana Ashanti here for D'Journae. Today we are talking Colourpop. If you have not heard about this brand, welcome to earth. It is one of the leading makeup brands in the USA now. For $5 per eyeshadow and $6 per lippie, you cannot go wrong.
I recently did a little spring shopping and I got me some goodies so here we go. Colour Pop has extended their line from single eyeshadows to lippie sticks to Collabs and packages. Recently they introduced their liquid matte lipsticks and ultra-satin liquid lipsticks. My top and favorite of the bunch are as follows:

This is an off brown, slightly burnt orange color. Goes on smooth, dries semi matte and is just beautiful. For every skin tone out there, I believe Lost is your perfect partner with your summer glowy skin full face.

This is a collab color with Karruche Tran and my absolute favorite. For Karruche’s skin tone, I was wondering if it will be a “one color fits all” shade and she nailed it. Similar to Lost, Rooch dries matte and slightly burnt range.

Panda has the smoothest formula ever. Easy application and perfect finish. Panda is purple but soft. Perfect for the summer and you will need coconut oil to take it off. I ate a shrimp basket and it stayed on!

Colourpop’s lippie sticks are pigmented, smooth and hydrating. Their new collection involved these three and I am very pleased with each of them. Perfect for that summer dress.

ColourPop’s pigments are every girl’s dream. Glitter, soft and a less for more budget is the mantra. Fantasy is pink with purple glitter. It is the date night, girls night and dating myself night eyeshadow. Twinkle winkle.

Also from the collab with Karruche Tran is this color, Kaepop. It is wine and depending on the skin tone it goes on, it takes on a different color. I love this color for my deep skin tone. A perfect transition color.

Want to get that wing liner on fleek and sharper than a butcher knife? This is your color. With an angle brush (and a little concealer if need be), this will create the best black eyeliner this summer. I used it as a base for a blue eyeshadow and it popped just right to create the smoky eye of my dreams.

So guys that is all for this haul. Find me @nana_ashanti on Instagram and follow my blog at www.mylovelettertoafrica.com
Let me know if Colour Pop got you right this season. I know it did.
